Senior Software Engineer (Node)

Location: Remote; candidates must reside in the Eastern or Central time zones. Company business hours are weekdays 9-5 CST. Finalists must attend an in-person interview at the Dallas headquarters.

What you will do

• Lead backend platform architecture, including service and API structure, asynchronous and real-time processing, rate limiting, resiliency, and relational/document data modeling.
• Design and implement complex Node.js, TypeScript, and Next.js API services, including API contracts, authentication, authorization, caching, messaging, and database access.
• Deliver production-quality backend features and document architecture decisions for stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership to the Node sub-team through code reviews, mentoring, and Node coding standards.
• Own backend performance optimization, testing strategy, and CI/CD pipeline governance for secure, HIPAA-compliant, high-availability services.
• Partner with frontend and mobile teams on stable, well-documented API contracts without owning frontend development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of professional software development experience with primary backend expertise.
• Deep, demonstrable proficiency with Node.js, TypeScript, and Next.js API routes for production services and APIs.
• Strong experience designing relational and document databases.
• Experience deploying and operating services on a cloud platform; Azure is preferred.
• Ability to maintain a dedicated work area separate from other living areas, protect sensitive company documents, and use a location with existing high-speed internet service.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of professional backend or full-stack development experience.
• Experience in healthcare technology, health insurance, or another regulated industry.
• Experience with HL7 FHIR, X12, or NCPDP healthcare data standards for data integration and API design.
• Experience with WebSockets, event-driven architecture, GraphQL or tRPC, and monorepo tooling.
