Senior Software Engineer (Backend) - Portugal

Location: Portugal — Remote. The position is based in Portugal and works closely with US-based employees.

Salary: €80,000–€90,000 EUR per year. Actual pay depends on location and experience.

What you will do

• Analyze product requirements and provide feedback.
• Implement features and functionality using clean, maintainable code.
• Develop and enhance investment and financial products, backend services, APIs, infrastructure, and integrations with financial institutions and partners.
• Contribute across the stack, with the primary focus on backend development.
• Maintain software quality through functional testing and automated unit tests.
• Troubleshoot production issues and provide resolutions and improvement recommendations.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience at a technology company in software development or a similar role.
• Fluent written and spoken English with strong communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of software design and familiarity with design patterns.
• Experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, and Node.js.
• Strong fundamental understanding of relational databases, including PostgreSQL and MySQL; ability to model and design intuitive, scalable schemas.
• Strong debugging skills and willingness to contribute outside the primary area of expertise.
• Strong product delivery record and experience with Agile/Scrum development methodology.
• Proven experience building backend services with high availability and scalability requirements.
• Responsibility, a good sense of humor, and a down-to-earth personality.
