Senior Accountant (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid; candidates must live within commuting distance of the SoHo office in New York City. In-office work is required three days per week, including Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Annual salary: $89,000–$120,000 plus equity.

What you will do

• Lead day-to-day external audit activities, including PBC requests, timelines, fieldwork logistics, schedules, workpapers, tie-outs, and auditor inquiries.
• Own product-level cash reconciliations across network payables, customer receivables, interchange, chargebacks, and fees.
• Investigate transaction-level discrepancies, document root causes, and partner with Data and Engineering on underlying fixes.
• Review AP and AR activity, including payments, reimbursements, card issuance, invoicing, deferred revenue, and credit applications.
• Prepare and review month-end journal entries, support the Accounting Manager with close and variance analysis, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Research technical accounting positions, maintain policies, improve workflows, and provide technical guidance to junior team members.

Requirements

• BA/BS in Accounting and 4+ years of experience in Big 4 and/or startup accounting.
• Experience working directly with auditors on an independent financial statement audit and working knowledge of GAAP.
• Ability to write basic SQL to retrieve, filter, join, and summarize transactional data, with an investigative approach to discrepancies.
• Demonstrated use of AI tools such as Claude and advanced Excel for complex data sets, reconciliations, variance analysis, memo drafting, and process documentation.
• Advanced ERP experience, preferably NetSuite, and hands-on AP/AR experience including subledger-to-GL reconciliation.
• Strong customer-service communication skills with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to adapt and grow in a fast-paced organization, with an approachable manner that builds trust.

Nice to have

• FinTech experience and familiarity with settlement, interchange, and funds flow, or the ability to learn complex transactional data models quickly.
• Experience with Salesforce, Ramp, Google Suite, and/or Looker.
