Senior Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid in Vancouver, BC, Canada, with two days per week required in the office. Candidates must be based in the Vancouver area; fully remote work is not available.

Salary: CAD 199,800–244,200 base salary plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and implement Cash Out features and highly reliable transaction flows across debit card networks, ACH, FedNow, and RTP.
• Build REST/gRPC APIs and event-driven integrations using well-defined contracts, idempotent consumers, and reliable payment-failure handling.
• Use AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows for design, coding, testing, review, debugging, and incident response while maintaining quality and safety.
• Work across backend services, APIs, and client experiences in partnership with product, design, data science, and analytics.
• Own service health through on-call participation, incident response, postmortems, monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and runbooks.
• Mentor engineers through code, design, and architecture reviews and share effective AI workflows.

Requirements

• 4+ years of software engineering experience, primarily building and operating backend services.
• Computer science or related degree, or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands-on daily experience with Cursor and Claude, including the ability to explain AI-assisted delivery, verification, and correction of incorrect AI output.
• Experience using AI to deliver backend and, when needed, full-stack work end to end.
• Strong product sense, customer-first mindset, and experience measuring customer or member outcomes through opportunity sizing, experiments, or metrics.
• Ownership of production services, including on-call support, incident response, and follow-through.
• Proficiency in at least one of Kotlin, Java, C#, Go, Python, or TypeScript, with the ability to work in more than one language.
• Hands-on experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or DynamoDB, and with streaming or messaging technologies such as Kafka or AWS SNS/SQS.
• Experience with microservice architectures, continuous integration and delivery, and functional and integration testing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, bias toward action and results, and comfort adapting as priorities change.

Nice to have

• Experience with payments, ledgers, or money movement systems where correctness and auditability matter.
• Experience building web or mobile client experiences, including TypeScript, React, or native mobile.
• Experience with Kubernetes, AWS, and monitoring or observability tools such as Datadog.
• Experience helping a team adopt AI agentic workflows that improve output and quality.
• Experience in fintech or other regulated, security-sensitive environments.
