Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Canada; full-time remote position

hirify.global is a stablecoin-native banking platform for global enterprises, providing corporate cards, payments, treasury, and spend products across 35 countries.

What you will do

• Design, build, maintain, and operate scalable backend services processing financial transactions for customers across more than 20 countries.
• Develop production-quality backend features in Go, Python, or Node.js/TypeScript, including RESTful and GraphQL APIs, microservices, gRPC communication, message queues, and event-driven architectures.
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis schemas for correctness, performance, and scale.
• Integrate LLM APIs such as OpenAI and Anthropic into product features, and build safe pipelines for validation, fallbacks, observability, cost efficiency, and graceful degradation.
• Implement authentication, authorization, input validation, data protection, structured logging, distributed tracing, metrics, CI/CD, testing, and deployment improvements.
• Participate in on-call rotations, production incident response, post-incident reviews, design reviews, documentation, and collaboration with engineering, product, compliance, data, and AI teams across regions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Fluent English with professional written and spoken fluency for daily work with global teams.
• Strong proficiency in at least one of Go, Python, or Node.js/TypeScript.
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven backend systems.
• Solid understanding of relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and data modeling.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure; Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience reliably integrating third-party APIs in production, including error handling, retry logic, and observability.
• Experience working on globally distributed teams across time zones and regions.
• Comfort using AI tools in everyday engineering work, integrating LLM outputs into backend services, and using AI coding assistants fluently.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, financial services, payments, or regulated industries, including familiarity with ledger systems, payment rails, KYC/AML, or PCI-DSS.
• Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese.
• Startup or high-growth scale-up experience and comfort building with limited process support.
• Experience with multi-currency systems or cross-border payment processing.
• Familiarity with Kafka, RabbitMQ, and event-driven architecture.
• Global work experience at companies operating across multiple countries and regulatory environments.
