Software Development Engineer II (SDE2), Trust Experience

Location: Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Hybrid work with onsite attendance Tuesday through Thursday each week; additional onsite attendance may be required based on business needs.

Starting base salary: $124,000–$155,000 CAD annually, plus equity and other compensation components.

What you will do

• Design and implement modular, maintainable backend services and APIs for Trust Experience systems.
• Own features and functional areas from technical design through deployment, production support, and maintenance.
• Build reliable and secure data-access patterns using relational and non-relational databases, DynamoDB, and file or object storage for sensitive customer data.
• Integrate third-party identity and document-verification vendors.
• Improve code quality, automated testing, deployment, logging, monitoring, system reliability, and performance.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Design, and Compliance/Risk stakeholders; review code and designs, mitigate risks, and support engineer onboarding.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience using AI throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language: Kotlin, Java, Go, or Python.
• Proficiency in at least one frontend language: ReactJS or Vue.
• Experience building and operating production services on cloud platforms such as AWS.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases.
• Strong software design fundamentals and the ability to write clean, well-tested, maintainable code.
• Experience writing automated tests and working in CI/CD environments.
• Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly within a team setting.

Nice to have

• Experience with DynamoDB or other large-scale NoSQL data stores and distributed systems.
• Experience with GraphQL or API gateway design.
• Experience with document or image processing or third-party verification integrations.
• Familiarity with sensitive or regulated data, including PII and KYC/identity verification.
• Familiarity with observability and operational best practices.
