Staff Software Engineer (AI Platform)

Location: Remote home office in the United States or Alberta, Canada; Calgary office available but non-mandatory.

Salary: $205,000–$225,000 USD or $180,000–$200,000 CAD per year.

What you will do

• Own and evolve core syndi-api runtime surfaces, including the agent loop, tool execution and registry, memory, and context management.
• Build and expand offline and production-trace-based online evaluation systems as product teams adopt the platform.
• Operate production agent experiences through observability, incident response, and reliability improvements.
• Review product teams’ tool wrappers and evals, and evolve the tools registry and drift-detection contract.
• Clarify, design, and implement compliance and legal requirements for the AI platform.
• Design, ship, and operate systems end-to-end while collaborating directly with product-team owners.

Requirements

• 5+ years building production backend systems, including deep experience with Python, relational databases, and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with GCP and Kubernetes.
• Production experience building LLM-powered systems, such as agent loops, tool-calling integrations, RAG, or evaluation infrastructure.
• Design systems for operability, including legal compliance, tracing, evaluations, and kill switches.
• Ability to own a technical domain with light supervision, write API specifications, incorporate review, ship, and take on-call responsibility.
• Strong written communication for design documentation and cross-team pull-request review.

Nice to have

• Experience working on the platform side of a platform/product relationship.
• Experience with SSE or streaming systems.
• Compliance-adjacent engineering experience, including data minimization or auditability.
• Previous Staff-level scope.
