EHS Specialist (Construction Safety)

Location: Grand Rapids, MI, United States; hybrid workplace; field-based role with up to 75%+ travel, including overnight and occasional weekend travel

Salary: $82,000–$166,000 base pay annually.

What you will do

• Provide EHS support for modernization, retrofit, and upgrade projects throughout North America.
• Conduct site inspections, audits, safety observations, and risk assessments at active construction and industrial sites.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, customer safety requirements, and Dematic EHS policies.
• Review Job Hazard Analyses, permit processes, and safe work practices.
• Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and onboarding for employees and contractors.
• Investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, manage contractor compliance, and coach project teams on hazard recognition and risk mitigation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in environmental health and safety, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of full-time construction safety management experience.
• Experience supporting industrial construction, automation, material handling, or conveyor installation projects.
• Strong working knowledge of fall protection, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, crane and rigging operations, confined space entry, and mobile elevated work platforms.
• Experience conducting incident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and coaching skills.

Nice to have

• Current OSHA 500 Trainer Certification.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
