Manual Test Engineer

Location: Hybrid, with on-site work in Ashburn, Virginia, 4 days per week during the first year and as mission needs require. Candidates must be within the greater Washington, DC area and commutable to Ashburn. United States citizenship and the ability to pass a DHS background check are required.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and execute test and evaluation procedures based on requirements, use cases, and deployment environments.
• Develop and maintain test plans, scenarios, scripts, procedures, smoke suites, and regression suites.
• Perform manual functional, black-box, web, mobile, API endpoint, and microservices testing.
• Record defects in Jira with clear reproduction steps, document test logs, analyze results, and report progress.
• Support software installation, configuration, production incidents, risk assessments, formal reviews, and government lifecycle documentation.
• Collaborate with users, project managers, developers, and product teams in an Agile environment to refine solutions through demonstrations and feedback.

Requirements

• 2–5 years of recent software testing experience, including manual functional testing and test automation.
• Experience writing test plans, test cases, test procedures, and test scripts from requirements and use cases.
• Hands-on experience with Playwright, Selenium, Cucumber, or Cypress; experience testing web-based and mobile applications.
• Experience writing SQL to read Oracle data and querying MongoDB data.
• Experience with the software development lifecycle and Agile/Scrum environments.
• Knowledge of test engineering methodology, including black-box, smoke, and regression testing.
• Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript sufficient to read and understand web application code.
• Knowledge of API and microservices testing with tools such as Postman and Swagger; proficiency with Jira and Confluence.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Design, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Must be a United States citizen and pass a DHS background check.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, ability to explain technical information to non-technical audiences, and ability to work in a matrixed team.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting production incidents in a QA capacity.
• Experience with federal-sector application development projects.
• Current CBP background investigation.
• Testing certification such as ISTQB.
