Co-Op, SCADA Engineer (AWS)

Location: On-site at the Alewife site in Cambridge, MA, USA; available full time for the Spring 2027 co-op term

What you will do

• Build a live topology view of edge nodes, MQTT brokers, Ignition gateways, and databases with per-link status and last-seen timestamps.
• Develop dashboards for RDS PostgreSQL health, including CPU, memory, storage growth, connections, replication lag, and slow queries.
• Monitor Ignition gateways, EC2 instances, and on-premise edge nodes, including JVM heap, tag quality, Sparkplug events, scan timing, reachability, uptime, resource use, and last publish time.
• Integrate CloudWatch, Performance Insights, Ignition gateway metrics, and broker status into one read-only interface.
• Document the monitoring setup so it can be extended and maintained after the co-op term.

Requirements

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
• Available full time for the Spring 2027 co-op term and able to work on-site at Alewife.
• Proficiency in Python for scripting and data collection.
• Comfort working in Linux from the command line.
• Working knowledge of networking fundamentals, including IP addressing, subnets, ports, and routing.
• Clear written communication for documenting dashboards and findings.

Nice to have

• Exposure to AWS, particularly EC2, RDS, CloudWatch, or IAM.
• Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, or similar observability tools.
• Familiarity with Ignition, MQTT, Sparkplug, or other industrial SCADA tools.
• JavaScript or React experience for building inside Ignition Perspective.
