Junior Java Developer

Location: Sofia, Bulgaria; office-based during the first month, then hybrid with 3 days per week in the office and 2 days remotely

What you will do

• Develop and maintain Java-based components and features with support from experienced developers.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Investigate and fix bugs, improve existing functionality, and write clean, maintainable code.
• Collaborate with Java developers, QA engineers, and other cross-functional team members through code reviews and technical discussions.
• Contribute to automation, Agile Scrum practices, and improvements to team efficiency.
• Use AI-powered tools responsibly to improve productivity, explore solutions, automate repetitive tasks, and support development work.

Requirements

• Understanding of Java fundamentals, Java Core, and object-oriented programming principles.
• Basic knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
• Some experience with SQL and relational databases.
• Understanding of software development fundamentals, Git, unit testing, and the importance of automated tests.
• Academic, personal, or professional experience developing software in Java.
• Willingness to learn Spring, Spring Boot, and other technologies used by the team.
• Ability to work collaboratively, ask questions when needed, and communicate effectively in English.

Nice to have

• Experience with Spring or Spring Boot, REST APIs, Maven or Gradle, Docker, CI/CD, or Git-based development workflows.
• Personal or university projects demonstrating Java skills.
• Previous internship or commercial software development experience.
• Experience using AI tools for coding, learning, debugging, or improving development workflows.
