What you will do
Co-own the backlog and roadmap with the Product Manager, challenge scope based on user value, and turn product goals into technical plans.
Lead the System Squad’s delivery through planning, unblocking, and day-to-day coordination.
Develop engineers through regular 1:1s, direct feedback, annual development plans, and the Career Progression Framework.
Set technical direction and quality standards, and review code and architecture in depth.
Lead responsible AI adoption within the squad while maintaining quality and security.
Review DORA metrics, PR cycle time, uptime, incidents, and technical debt; participate in the on-call rotation, hiring, and wider engineering initiatives.
Requirements
6+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years managing engineers with direct reports.
Senior-level engineering expertise in a web stack, with the ability to contribute meaningfully to code and architecture discussions.
Experience shaping a roadmap with a Product Manager and changing product direction based on user or data insights.
Experience growing engineers through direct feedback and difficult development conversations.
Ability to balance empathy with directness, communicate technical trade-offs, remain steady under pressure, and hold an unpopular position when needed.
AI is already part of your working practice, and you have a clear view of how to introduce it to a team.
Comfort with skill gaps, continuous feedback, uncertainty, and change in a scale-up environment.
Excellent written and spoken English; available full-time.
