Senior Director of Engineering (AI)

Location: Hybrid; work from the Berlin, Haarlem, or Ljubljana office 3 days per week.

Salary: €103,800–€129,800 gross annually in Slovenia; discretionary bonuses and equity may also apply.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and scale a global engineering organization of 70+ engineers, managers, and directors across multiple offices, geographies, and time zones.
• Set measurable outcomes, performance standards, accountability practices, and priorities across engineering teams.
• Lead execution and delivery for Area Monitoring Service, EU Common Agricultural Policy compliance solutions, Disaster and Wildfire solutions, Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem, and derived data products.
• Drive zero-to-one product discovery by incubating, architecting, prototyping, and launching new civil government and commercial solutions.
• Partner with Product Management, Design, Science, and GTM teams to define product direction, prioritize features, and align technical strategy with business goals.
• Guide scalable, reliable, secure enterprise systems, cloud infrastructure, deployment lifecycles, operational availability, and engineering practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant software engineering experience, including 8+ years of supervisory or leadership experience managing multiple layers of engineering management.
• Experience leading and scaling distributed engineering teams of 50+ employees across multiple geographic locations and time zones.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools and leading engineering teams through AI adoption.
• Track record of zero-to-one product development, including technical discovery, architecture, and successful launch of software solutions.
• Experience building and delivering geospatial platforms, data analytics solutions, or enterprise SaaS products.
• Experience delivering tailored customer solutions and integrating new building blocks into shared solution platforms.
• Ability to translate complex business and user requirements into actionable technical roadmaps with cross-functional partners.
• Experience overseeing operational reliability, cloud infrastructure, software deployment lifecycles, delivery metrics, and high operational availability or SLAs for enterprise applications.
• Ability to recruit, mentor, and retain engineering talent at all levels while fostering an inclusive culture, with clear written and verbal communication skills.
