Director of Engineering Practices (AI)

Location: London Wall; exceptional global applications may be considered to work from their current location, without relocation. The role is also associated with Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Base pay in Amsterdam: €110,500–€184,000 per year.

What you will do

• Lead the implementation of engineering practices, workflows, processes, and tooling across the software development lifecycle.
• Translate architecture standards, engineering best practices, and guardrails into tools, plugins, reusable components, skills, and agentic workflows.
• Build tooling that identifies architectural and quality risks early in development.
• Remain hands-on with AI-assisted coding tools through code reviews, prototyping, and pull requests where appropriate.
• Help product teams solve complex technical problems and drive cost-efficient solutions.
• Drive adoption of internal engineering platforms and evaluate emerging technologies to improve development workflows.

Requirements

• Solid knowledge of architectural and software development methodologies and their practical application.
• Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices and AI-assisted development, including effects on quality, delivery speed, maintainability, and developer effectiveness.
• Ability to quickly understand new technologies and translate them into workable tools and processes.
• Experience implementing technical direction and standards across product lines and cross-functional teams.
• Ability to translate technical findings into clear recommendations for engineering leadership.
• Strong working knowledge of architectural design and governance practices.
• Experience delivering complex projects and working directly with customers or internal stakeholders.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and their impact on quality, speed, and maintainability.
