Special Education Tutor

Location: On-site 1:1 in-home tutoring in Vallejo, California, United States

Salary: $25–$35 per hour; 10–25 hours per month. Schedule: Monday–Thursday after 4:00 PM, Friday after 12:30 PM, and Saturday by agreement with the family. Start ASAP.

What you will do

• Provide individualized academic support in math, spelling, grammar, writing, and reading.
• Develop foundational literacy through phonics, spelling, grammar, reading comprehension, and structured repetition.
• Adapt reading instruction to the student's approximately 3rd-grade reading level.
• Support handwriting, sentence formation, written expression, fine motor development, and functional skills such as tying shoelaces.
• Teach math word problems and mathematical reasoning through structured instruction and practical examples.
• Adjust lessons to the student's pace and needs and communicate progress with the family.

Requirements

• Experience working with students with special education needs.
• Background in literacy intervention and foundational reading instruction.
• Knowledge of phonics, spelling, grammar, reading comprehension, and writing instruction.
• Ability to teach math concepts through structured instruction and practical examples.
• Patient, encouraging, and adaptable teaching style.
• Strong instructional skills and ability to maintain a consistent tutoring schedule.
• The student is in 7th grade, has epilepsy affecting fine motor skills, reads at approximately a 3rd-grade level, and requires support in reading, writing, grammar, spelling, math, handwriting, and fine motor development.
