TL;DR
Environmental Health & Safety Lead (Aerospace): Building and owning the EHS program for aerospace test operations, a new test site, and future manufacturing with an accent on high-hazard testing, Cal/OSHA compliance, permitting, and field safety. Focus on designing safety baselines, leading hazard analyses and test readiness reviews, managing emergency response and incidents, and making combustion, fuel, high-pressure, and high-voltage work safer to execute.
Location: San Francisco; working in the office five days a week is an essential part of the role.
Compensation: $150K–$200K per year
Company
hirify.global is a vertically integrated aerospace company developing technology for critical infrastructure, mission operations, and the future of flight.
What you will do
Define the safety baseline for test operations and the new test site, including the site safety plan, emergency response, test readiness reviews, and California-required programs.
Build the EHS program from test-site safety through manufacturing, including risk registers, written programs, training, inspections, and corrective actions.
Own safety programs covering LOTO, electrical safety, hot work, confined space, fall protection, chemical safety, PPE, hazard analyses, and management of change.
Provide hands-on training and field support for commissioning, heavy lifts, rigging, forklifts, aerial lifts, and high-hazard testing.
Own permitting and agency engagement with Cal/OSHA, fire departments, CUPAs, BAAQMD, and other authorities; maintain inspection-ready records.
Build emergency response plans, investigate incidents through corrective-action closure, and prepare EHS requirements for the manufacturing build-out.
Requirements
7+ years of EHS experience in aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, energy, or other high-consequence hardware environments.
Experience standing up EHS programs from scratch or near scratch in a startup or rapidly scaling operation.
Ability to execute a defined safety plan directly and grow the function as the company scales; the role requires an owner and doer before a department head.
Deep working knowledge of Cal/OSHA, including the Injury and Illness Prevention Program, LOTO, machine guarding, electrical safety, and industrial hygiene.
Hands-on experience with high-hazard operations, preferably high-voltage or electricity-producing machine testing, combustion testing, pressure systems, fuels, or crane and rigging.
Experience securing permits and working with fire departments, CUPAs, air districts, and other authorities having jurisdiction.
Experience selecting and managing EHS consultants and training providers.
Sound judgment under pressure, including the ability to stop unsafe work and redesign it so it can proceed safely.
Nice to have
Aerospace propulsion or hot-fire test experience.
CSP, CIH, CHMM, or HAZWOPER credentials.
Culture & Benefits
Flat, pragmatic engineering culture with a focus on building reliable products.
Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, including FSAs.
401(k) program and transparent stock option plan.
Self-managed flexible time off, PTO, paid holidays, and sick time.
Flexible work environment within an office-based role requiring five days per week onsite.
