Health & Safety Manager (Manufacturing)

Location: On-site in South San Francisco, United States, with regular travel to the Idaho facility.

What you will do

• Own the Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, and written safety programs.
• Build and operate safety programs covering lockout/tagout, machine guarding, hazard communication, PPE, forklifts, emergency response, fire prevention, ergonomics, and heat illness prevention.
• Identify and control hazards across automated winding and assembly, robotics, stamping, magnet handling, finishing, curing, solvents, adhesives, and high-voltage testing.
• Lead job hazard analyses, pre-start safety reviews, floor walks, inspections, and safety requirements for new equipment, lines, and facility layouts.
• Deliver onboarding and recurring training, manage contract-operator safety coordination, and develop line leads as safety trainers.
• Lead near-miss reporting, incident investigations, corrective actions, OSHA recordkeeping, agency inspections, environmental compliance, safety committees, and monthly metrics reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of health and safety experience in manufacturing, including at least 2 years leading a site safety program.
• Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA Title 8, federal OSHA general industry standards, and OSHA recordkeeping.
• Hands-on experience with machine guarding, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, and incident investigation.
• Experience managing safety for employees and temporary or contract workers, including across multiple sites.
• Willingness to travel regularly between California and Idaho and ability to work directly on the production floor and present to leadership.
• Ability to build safety programs and training from scratch in a fast-changing environment, with excellent communication and training skills.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• CSP, ASP, CIH, or OSHA 500/510 trainer credential.
• Experience scaling safety programs through a new plant startup or high-volume production ramp.
• Experience in AS9100 or ISO 9001 certified manufacturing environments.
• Background in electric motors, electronics, metal stamping, automated, or robotic manufacturing.
• Familiarity with ANSI/RIA R15.06, ISO 10218, ANSI B11, combustible dust, magnetic materials, industrial hygiene sampling, CERS, BAAQMD, Idaho DEQ, or ISO 45001.
