Principal Infrastructure Architect – Cloud & SaaS Platforms

Location: Hybrid in California; candidates must be within commuting distance of the San Jose or Newport Beach offices and work on-site 2–3 days per week. No relocation assistance is offered.

Salary: USD $171,960–$282,510 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

What you will do

• Lead the migration of legacy EC2 workloads to Amazon EKS and Kubernetes, defining standards for multi-region availability, autoscaling, and spot-instance orchestration.
• Design API and LLM gateways, service meshes, and traffic-management capabilities for generative AI workloads.
• Architect real-time data infrastructure using AWS databases, OLAP systems, Aerospike, and Druid for sub-millisecond latency.
• Build event-driven messaging backbones with Kafka, SNS/SQS, or Pulsar and support internet-scale microservices.
• Define unified observability using OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Datadog, and Graylog, while modernizing identity, secrets, certificates, and security gateways.
• Champion GitOps and infrastructure as code with Terraform, Crossplane, or Pulumi; mentor infrastructure engineers and lead Well-Architected reviews.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional experience in infrastructure engineering and architecture, including large-scale AWS deployments; experience with GCP or Azure is also relevant.
• Deep hands-on Kubernetes and EKS expertise, including custom controllers, operators, and migration of stateful and stateless workloads from VMs to containers.
• Strong experience with high-scale data systems, particularly Aerospike, Redis, Druid, and ClickHouse.
• Extensive secure-infrastructure experience, including Zero Trust networks, WAFs, and secret-management systems.
• Experience building observability pipelines with OpenTelemetry collectors and Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
• Expert-level proficiency in Go, Python, or Bash and deep experience with CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or ArgoCD.
• Deep understanding of cloud networking, including VPC, Transit Gateways, and Direct Connect, plus gRPC, HTTP/2, WebSocket, and QUIC.

Nice to have

• Experience at FAANG or another leading Big Tech company.
• Familiarity with SOC 2 and PCI-DSS compliance standards.
