Cloud Architecture Engineer - Vice President (AWS/Kubernetes)

Location: New York, New York, United States; office-based Monday–Thursday with remote work flexibility on Friday.

Base salary: $150,000–$190,000 per year, depending on level.

What you will do

• Design and continuously improve Kubernetes architecture and help manage cluster lifecycles operationally.
• Integrate self-hosted and SaaS services, collaborating with developers on software architecture where needed.
• Manage Transit Gateway, Network Firewall, and external connectivity.
• Define edge and traffic-management architecture, including CDN, DNS, and TLS strategies with technologies such as Akamai and Cloudflare.
• Create and maintain reference architectures, design documents, and architectural guardrails.
• Partner with engineering, security, and product teams to establish and adopt practical platform standards.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in platform, cloud, or infrastructure engineering roles with demonstrated architectural responsibility.
• Strong hands-on experience designing and operating Kubernetes platforms in production, including autoscaling, node provisioning, and security on EKS.
• Deep understanding of AWS infrastructure, networking, security primitives, managed services, VPC design, routing, and planning for scale.
• Strong understanding of ingress and egress, Transit Gateway design, and private connectivity.
• Ability to operate as a senior individual contributor and influence multiple teams as a leader.
• Very strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain architectural decisions to technical and nontechnical audiences.

Nice to have

• Deep expertise in Kong or other API gateways.
• Direct production experience managing Akamai.
• Strong understanding of application design principles.
• Experience with EKS standards such as Bottlerocket, Karpenter, and Auto Mode.
• Software engineering background and some experience with Python.
• AWS or Kubernetes certifications.
