Software Engineer Intern

Location: Germantown, Maryland, United States; site-based internship with work from a hirify.global office or work location at least 3 days per week

Salary: $20.91–$56.97 per hour; specific locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area: $25.96–$67.07 per hour

What you will do

• Design, refactor, maintain, develop, integrate, automate, and test software across existing and upcoming product features.
• Support functionality, security, performance, quality, and certification requirements across multiple products.
• Clarify requirements and collaborate within an agile, multidisciplinary development team.
• Gain experience in embedded systems, application development, frontend user interfaces, system infrastructure, scripting, automation, data visualization, and dashboarding.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Math, or a related field; final graduation date must be between December 2027 and August 2028.
• Available to work 40 hours per week for the full internship duration. Cohort 1 runs May 17–August 6, 2027; Cohort 2 runs June 21–September 10, 2027.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Previous experience with object-oriented programming, functional programming, and C or C++.
• Ability to learn new software, frameworks, and APIs; strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Excellent software design, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
• Experience with or desire to learn Linux.
• Familiarity with Git and development tools such as Eclipse or Visual Studio.

Nice to have

• Experience with Java or Python.
• Courses in software architecture and practical software design.
• Experience developing software monitoring and control software.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, TCP/IP network fundamentals, and agile development methodologies.
• Desire to work on network-based products.
