Systems Software Engineering Intern (C/Python)

Location: Onsite in Arlington, Virginia; US citizenship is required.

Pay range: $25–$40 USD.

What you will do

• Implement C and Python systems programming for low-level networking, hardware-facing code, and Linux kernel integration.
• Develop and configure kernel modules and drivers, enumerate devices, and debug systems below userspace.
• Assist with PCIe system architecture, high-performance networking offloads, and out-of-band management interfaces.
• Communicate project status to team leads and present technical work at the end of the 12-week internship.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
• At least 1 year of professional or academic C and Python software development experience, Linux kernel familiarity, and knowledge of networking fundamentals.
• Familiarity with Git and Linux software development tools.
• US citizenship is required.
• Ability to work onsite at the Arlington, Virginia office.

Nice to have

• Systems programming experience in C and Python, including low-level networking and hardware-facing code.
• Knowledge of Linux internals, including kernel modules, drivers, device enumeration, and below-userspace debugging.
• Familiarity with PCIe system architecture, including topology, addressing, peer-to-peer, virtualization, and passthrough.
• Understanding of high-performance networking concepts such as kernel-bypass packet processing, hardware offload, and line-rate data paths.
• Understanding of out-of-band management concepts, including BMC and REST-based interfaces with automation.
