Application Developer (Metadata Store)

Location: Hybrid in or able to work from the Washington, D.C. area; all applicants must currently reside in the United States. TS/SCI clearance with a current CI polygraph is required, with SCIF support.

Salary: USD $97,069–$155,310 per year.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain services and tools integrating enterprise metadata repositories and data catalogs for ingestion, modeling, search, and lineage.
• Build and operate metadata ingestion pipelines, RESTful APIs, and event-driven integrations.
• Create developer tooling for schema and metadata management, search, and lineage visualization.
• Define metadata models and integration patterns with data engineering, product, and platform teams.
• Troubleshoot and optimize metadata workflows while monitoring data quality and consistency.
• Contribute to architecture decisions, code reviews, sprint planning, continuous improvement, and production security, performance, and scalability.

Requirements

• TS/SCI clearance with a current CI polygraph is required.
• Bachelor’s degree plus 6+ years of application or software development experience, or 8+ years of experience in lieu of a degree; recent hands-on experience within the last 2 years is preferred.
• Strong development experience in at least one of Python, Java, or C#.
• Practical experience with metadata stores or governance platforms such as Apache Atlas, DataHub, Collibra, Microsoft Purview, or similar systems.
• Understanding of metadata concepts including lineage, schema, glossary, classification, and governance workflows.
• Hands-on experience building RESTful APIs and/or event-driven services such as Kafka or Pub/Sub.
• Familiarity with Azure, AWS, or GCP; CI/CD, Git, and modern DevOps practices.
• Proficiency with Node.js, TypeScript, and Docker.
• Experience with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Redis.

Nice to have

• Experience with data engineering, ETL/ELT, or data modeling pipelines.
• Familiarity with Neo4j or advanced lineage and search capabilities.
• Experience with NestJS/Express, Jest, GitLab CI, Spring Boot, or Scala/Groovy.
• Background integrating enterprise governance tooling and implementing policy-driven workflows.
• Experience with secure or classified systems.
• Interest or experience with applied AI/LLMs for metadata enrichment, including semantic classification and automated tagging.
