Senior Software Development Engineer In Test - Embedded Software/Firmware (Medical Devices)

What you will do

• Develop and maintain production-quality automated test scripts, reusable libraries, framework APIs, utilities, test data, and CI/CD integrations using Python and JavaScript.
• Create and execute verification and validation strategies, plans, protocols, test cases, and reports for embedded insulin-pump firmware.
• Perform functional, integration, regression, reliability, fault-injection, and recovery testing across firmware, embedded applications, device interfaces, and hardware/software integration.
• Validate device behavior using HIL/SIL benches, simulators, test fixtures, and laboratory equipment; investigate defects and implement corrective fixes.
• Apply AI-assisted tools to requirements analysis, test design, log analysis, defect triage, and documentation while reviewing outputs for accuracy, traceability, security, and compliance.
• Collaborate with software, systems, hardware, quality, regulatory, cybersecurity, and manufacturing teams; provide technical guidance and mentorship.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree and at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with Python and JavaScript for embedded test automation; familiarity with reading C or C++ firmware for test design and defect investigation.
• Experience testing safety-critical embedded products, especially medical devices or insulin-delivery systems, and firmware with real-time constraints.
• Knowledge of HIL/SIL environments, device simulators, automated hardware test fixtures, or embedded test-bench control utilities.
• Experience integrating physical-device or HIL/SIL tests into CI/CD workflows, including provisioning, execution, reporting, and failure diagnosis.
• Knowledge of verification and validation, requirements traceability, risk-based testing, defect investigation, and root-cause analysis in a regulated environment.
• Experience testing embedded communication interfaces or protocols such as UART, SPI, I²C, CAN, USB, or Bluetooth Low Energy.
• Ability to create objective V&V evidence and work with design controls, risk-management processes, IEC 62304, and ISO 13485.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience architecting reusable embedded test frameworks and device communication libraries.
• Experience responsibly using AI-assisted engineering tools in regulated environments with human review and appropriate controls.
