Senior Staff Engineer, Quality Engineering (AI & Test Automation)

Location: San Diego, California, United States; hybrid and explicitly not remote.

Base salary: $141,600–$212,400 per year, plus eligible variable cash compensation and equity.

What you will do

• Set the enterprise test strategy across SAP S/4HANA, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Workday, custom applications, data pipelines, and AI agents.
• Architect and lead the Tricentis quality platform, including Tosca, qTest, NeoLoad, SeaLights, LiveCompare, AI Workspace, standards, reusable libraries, licensing, and roadmap.
• Design and operate multi-agent testing workflows for test generation, execution, healing, triage, reporting, approvals, and audit trails.
• Build evaluation gates for AI agents using golden datasets, LLM-as-judge scoring, red teaming, tool-call correctness, safety, cost, RAG quality, observability, and risk-tiered release controls.
• Integrate MCP servers with Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Codex, and the Enterprise AI gateway; embed quality gates, test impact analysis, and release risk scoring into CI/CD.
• Apply FDA CSA, GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, and related regulated-quality practices; mentor engineers, lead design reviews and vendor partners, and report quality metrics to technical and business leaders.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software quality engineering experience, including 5+ years at lead, principal, or staff level setting strategy across multiple teams.
• 5+ years of hands-on enterprise-scale Tricentis Tosca experience, plus working knowledge of qTest and at least one of NeoLoad or SeaLights.
• Experience delivering test automation for packaged enterprise applications, ideally SAP S/4HANA or ECC and Salesforce.
• At least 1 year building or operating LLM-based or agentic testing in production, not only proofs of concept.
• Strong coding skills in at least two of Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, or C#.
• Deep CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, GitLab, or Jenkins, including quality gates.
• Experience testing in regulated environments such as GxP, medical devices, SOX, or similar, and producing audit-ready evidence.
• Clear written and spoken communication with engineers, product owners, and executives.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Expert Tosca and qTest skills and practical command of Tricentis agentic products, including Tosca Copilot, Agentic Test Automation, AI Workspace, remote MCP servers, SeaLights, NeoLoad, LiveCompare, Testim, Tricentis Data Integrity, and newer Tricentis Labs tools.
• Experience with agentic frameworks and protocols such as Claude Agent SDK, Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, LangGraph, CrewAI, Copilot Studio, Databricks Agent Bricks, MCP, and A2A; AI-native browser automation; prompt and context engineering; synthetic test data generation; and AI-agent evaluation.
• Experience with modern automation, API and contract testing, performance testing, security testing, accessibility, data testing, cloud and containers, observability, service virtualization, and enterprise applications.
• Knowledge of FDA CSA, GAMP 5 Second Edition, 21 CFR Part 11, EU Annex 11, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, FDA and EMA AI practices, HIPAA, GDPR, and data residency considerations.
• Ability to set multi-year technical direction, make build/buy/partner decisions, lead vendors and system integrators, coach engineers, and communicate quality risk to executives.

Nice to have

• Tricentis certifications, ISTQB Advanced or Expert, or ISTQB Certified Tester AI Testing.
• AWS Certified Machine Learning or AI Practitioner, or Databricks Generative AI Engineer certification.
• Published MCP servers, evaluation suites, or open-source test tooling.
• Experience in life sciences, genomics, diagnostics, or medical devices.
• Experience leading SAP S/4HANA migration or RISE program testing.
