Mechanical Drafter (Manufacturing)

Location: Onsite in Rochester and/or Rush, NY, with occasional travel to customer and supplier locations.

Salary: $22.00–$34.00 per hour, plus possible annual incentive and/or long-term incentives.

What you will do

• Create detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, assembly documentation, bills of materials, drawing packages, and engineering documentation using CAD software.
• Support the design of mechanical components, custom equipment, piping layouts, skid-mounted and modular systems, and industrial process equipment.
• Work with designers, engineers, manufacturing, and fabrication teams to turn concepts into accurate, fabrication-ready drawings.
• Assist with design changes, drawing revisions, and troubleshooting during equipment fabrication and assembly.
• Participate in design reviews and apply drafting, dimensioning, manufacturing, safety, quality, and continuous-improvement standards.
• Contribute to improvements in drafting processes, design tools, and documentation standards.

Requirements

• 2+ years of mechanical drafting or CAD experience, or an associate degree, bachelor's degree, or technical certificate in Drafting, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Foundational experience with 2D or 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, or similar through education, training, or professional experience.
• Ability to read, interpret, and create basic mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, willingness to learn, and ability to work collaboratively.
• Ability to take direction from senior designers and engineers and manage assigned tasks to deadlines.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to work onsite in Rochester and/or Rush, NY, with occasional travel.

Nice to have

• Internship, co-op, or professional drafting experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or engineering environment.
• Experience creating 3D models, 2D drawings, or mechanical assemblies using SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
• Familiarity with fabrication processes, equipment design, piping layouts, or industrial machinery.
• Understanding of GD&T, dimensioning standards, and bills of materials.
• Experience with skid-mounted equipment, modular systems, or industrial process equipment.
• Exposure to engineering change documentation, ISO 9001, or continuous-improvement practices.
