Staff Frontend Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Carlos, California, with 3+ days per week onsite and remote work permitted on remaining days. All work must be performed in the United States. U.S. Persons only; visa sponsorship and visa transfers are not available.

Base salary: $224,000–$260,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Design and implement React-based features and architect frontend systems for large-scale, real-time, and historical aviation data.
• Integrate, process, and visualize live streams and archived datasets from multiple sources.
• Mentor engineers and establish engineering practices through code reviews and architectural discussions.
• Collaborate with backend engineers, product managers, and UX/UI designers on design and implementation decisions.
• Build reliable, maintainable systems through automated testing, documentation, and strong engineering standards.
• Create reusable components and internal libraries to accelerate future development.

Requirements

• 9+ years of experience building and shipping high-performance, user-facing web applications.
• Deep expertise in React, TypeScript, JavaScript, state management, HTML/CSS, and modern web standards.
• Strong experience with asynchronous frontend patterns and efficient handling of live and historical data streams.
• Proven ownership of complex features or product areas from concept through delivery with a high degree of autonomy.
• Ability to operate proactively and resourcefully in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
• Ability to set and maintain a high technical bar through design decisions, code quality, mentorship, and hiring input.
• Ability to analyze and optimize frontend performance for scalability, responsiveness, and reliability.
• Must be a U.S. Person and able to perform all work in the United States due to U.S. export control regulations.

Nice to have

• Passion for aviation and improving air travel efficiency and safety.
• Experience with geospatial or mapping tools such as Mapbox or Cesium.
• Deep experience with live data streaming and playback systems.
• Experience with video streaming technologies and real-time media delivery.
