Company
Power develops fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor technology intended to support clean energy through safe, affordable, and flexible nuclear power.
What you will do
- Provide senior technical leadership and independent engineering judgment across Nuclear Design and Methods and its interfaces with plant design, licensing, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and reactor operation.
- Represent Nuclear Design in design reviews, readiness reviews, audits, licensing engagements, and senior technical or executive discussions, exercising delegated technical authority.
- Lead resolution of complex cross-disciplinary issues involving reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, instrumentation, radiation monitoring, shielding, criticality safety, fuel management, I&C, systems engineering, licensing, testing, and operations.
- Connect nuclear analyses and methods with plant requirements, instrumentation, operating constraints, surveillance, testing, acceptance criteria, procedures, and maintainable designs.
- Review and challenge analyses, calculations, requirements, specifications, design decisions, test plans, procedures, licensing-basis inputs, and readiness documentation.
- Guide startup, commissioning, initial fuel loading, startup physics testing, reactor monitoring, reactivity control, operational readiness, and the development of engineers and technical leaders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 15+ years of progressively responsible nuclear engineering experience, including significant senior-level technical leadership in nuclear power, reactor engineering, nuclear facilities, reactor programs, or a closely related field.
- Direct technical responsibility within an operating nuclear facility or reactor program, startup, or commissioning organization, or a comparable nuclear environment with accountability for operational, engineering, testing, procedures, surveillance, maintenance, or readiness decisions.
- Experience leading complex technical issues across multiple engineering disciplines and organizational stakeholders.
- Substantial experience with nuclear licensing and design bases, including Technical Specifications or equivalent operating limits, regulatory requirements, surveillance and testing, design-basis requirements, and configuration or design control.
- Experience across nuclear design, plant or systems engineering, licensing, and facility operations, including understanding how analytical assumptions and engineering decisions affect plant implementation.
- Ability to understand and challenge complex nuclear engineering analyses, assess technical evidence, evaluate plant impacts, and make sound judgments on high-consequence issues with incomplete information and competing requirements.
- Knowledge of nuclear design control, configuration management, and change-control principles, with the ability to identify escalation, independent-review, and technical-authority needs.
- Ability to synthesize complex cross-disciplinary information into clear technical conclusions and recommendations.
Nice to have
- Experience in an operating commercial nuclear power plant, particularly in reactor engineering, operations, plant engineering, startup or commissioning, or senior technical leadership.
- Experience across design, licensing, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, or major plant modifications.
- Experience with reactor startup, initial fuel loading, startup physics testing, operating procedures, surveillance, maintenance, or operational readiness.
- Experience with nuclear instrumentation and monitoring systems, including neutron or flux monitoring, radiation detection, air, area radiation, effluent, or environmental monitoring.
- Experience in reactor physics, fuel management, criticality safety, source term, radiation shielding, radiation protection, or nuclear material monitoring.
- Experience with a first-of-a-kind or advanced-reactor program where design, licensing, testing, commissioning, and operating approaches develop concurrently.
Culture & Benefits
- Full-time employment with medical, dental, and vision benefits for employees and dependents.
- Paid vacation, 401(k), pre-tax health insurance, dependent-care, and commuter benefits through FSA.
- Work may occur in office, manufacturing, assembly, test, construction, or operating-facility environments, with required PPE and dosimetry as applicable.
- Commitment to nuclear safety, technical rigor, accountability, constructive technical challenge, diversity, and equal employment opportunity.
- The facility handles Department of Energy Part 810-controlled information; access is subject to applicable export-control authorization and licensing requirements.
- Candidates only; recruiters and agencies are not accepted.
