Senior Nuclear I&C Engineer – Hardware

Location: Onsite in Torrance, California, United States. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Salary: $144,000–$176,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Own the plant design and application of nuclear instrumentation for a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor.
• Select and specify neutron flux detectors, radiation monitors, and process instrumentation for temperature, pressure, flow, and level measurement.
• Design detector signal chains, including biasing, preamplifiers, pulse, Campbell/MSV and current-mode processing, cabling, grounding, and noise control.
• Develop instrumentation documentation, installation designs, procurement packages, qualification plans, and licensing-support deliverables.
• Lead integration, verification, factory and site acceptance testing, calibration, loop checking, and commissioning.
• Coordinate with reactor physics, nuclear safety, electrical, mechanical, piping, vendors, contractors, and junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in nuclear, electrical, computer, or mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in radiation detection systems, nuclear instrumentation, or precision analog instrumentation.
• Hands-on experience with radiation detectors and their signal chains, including detector electronics, biasing, and low-level signal measurement.
• Ability to analyze analog measurement chains, noise, grounding, shielding, cable effects, and signal integrity.
• Experience leading integration, verification, commissioning, or formal test-reporting activities.
• Working knowledge of nuclear I&C standards such as IEEE 603, IEEE 497, or IEC 61513, plus the ability to interpret P&IDs, schematics, loop diagrams, and instrument data sheets.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer license or an advanced degree in nuclear engineering, physics, or a related field.
• Experience with wide-range neutron flux channels, environmental and radiation qualification, reactor protection systems, setpoint methodology, or response-time testing.
• Experience with mineral-insulated cable, high-temperature or high-radiation instrumentation, or nuclear plant and reactor-development environments.
• Familiarity with MCNP, Serpent, OpenMC, SCALE, NQA-1, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, Python, MATLAB, or data-acquisition systems.
