TL;DR
Electrical Engineer, Plant Electrical Systems (Nuclear Energy): Designing and supporting electrical distribution and switchyard systems for an advanced nuclear power plant with an accent on power-system studies, equipment specification, regulatory compliance, and commissioning. Focus on developing safe high-, medium-, and low-voltage systems, preparing traceable engineering documentation, and troubleshooting electrical issues across construction and startup.

Location: Onsite in Alameda, CA; Albuquerque, NM; or Oak Ridge, TN. Some travel may be required, up to approximately 15%; occasional schedule flexibility and extended hours may be required for critical project milestones, construction, testing, or commissioning.

Salary: $92,454–$108,769 annually for employees working onsite at the Alameda, CA headquarters.

Company

hirify.global develops fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactors to commercialize safe, affordable, and flexible clean-energy technology.

What you will do

  • Support the design and development of low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical distribution systems and switchyard layouts.
  • Specify and evaluate transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, cables, grounding systems, and related equipment.
  • Perform or support load-flow, short-circuit, protective-device coordination, arc-flash, reliability, and equipment-rating studies using ETAP, SKM Power Tools, PSS/E, or equivalent tools.
  • Prepare single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, equipment specifications, calculation packages, bills of materials, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate electrical design with civil, mechanical, IC&E, construction, operations, cybersecurity, and controls personnel through design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Support regulatory documentation, field walkdowns, installation and testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and issue resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Two to four years of relevant professional electrical-engineering experience; relevant internships, co-op assignments, and/or academic projects may count toward the lower end.
  • Foundational knowledge of electrical-engineering principles, power distribution systems, and electrical equipment.
  • Familiarity with load flow, short-circuit analysis, protective-device coordination, high- and medium-voltage equipment, transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, relays, and grounding systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and prepare electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, attention-to-detail, communication, organization, and deadline-management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, learn quickly, seek feedback, apply guidance, escalate issues appropriately, and maintain safety.
  • Ability to work in office, outdoor, noisy, low- and high-temperature, demanding environments; move between worksites; communicate information; and wear required site-specific PPE.
  • Authorization to access Department of Energy Part 810-controlled information may be required; foreign nationals from countries outside the DOE general authorization list may require a company export-control license.

Nice to have

  • Coursework or academic projects in power systems, electrical distribution, protection and control, or high-voltage systems.
  • Exposure to power generation, industrial facilities, utility systems, electrical distribution, or similarly regulated industries.
  • Experience or coursework with ETAP, SKM Power Tools, PSS/E, or similar power-system analysis software.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, NERC, NRC, and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification or progress toward EIT certification.
  • Interest in pursuing Professional Engineer licensure and additional relevant certifications.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment with medical, dental, and vision benefits for employees and dependents.
  • Paid vacation and competitive compensation.
  • 401(k), pre-tax health insurance, dependent-care, and commuter benefits through FSA programs.
  • Commitment to a diverse and inclusive workforce and equal employment opportunity.
  • Participation in E-Verify and a safety-focused, collaborative engineering environment.
