COBOL - Mainframe Senior Developer (Payment Processing)

Location: Hybrid role based at the EVO Lomas de Memelta, Mexico office in Cuajimalpa, Mexico

What you will do

• Develop and maintain high-quality COBOL solutions for mission-critical payment transaction processing.
• Resolve complex production incidents, identify root causes, implement sustainable fixes, and reduce operational risk across a 24x7 environment.
• Strengthen platform stability and data integrity through batch processing, recovery strategies, and controlled software implementations.
• Optimize mainframe applications and processes to improve performance, reduce recurring issues, and increase operational efficiency.
• Drive testing, knowledge sharing, governance, and technical quality practices that support system resilience.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience developing, maintaining, and supporting COBOL applications in complex mainframe environments.
• Deep expertise in COBOL, Job Control Language (JCL), batch processing, debugging, and production incident troubleshooting.
• Strong knowledge of IBM mainframe technologies, including VSAM, DB2, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, CA-7, and Endevor.
• Ability to own critical incidents, prioritize under pressure, and deliver reliable outcomes while protecting business operations and customer experience.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and business teams, including the ability to translate complex issues and drive successful delivery.

Nice to have

• Experience with credit card processing, payments, banking, or financial services platforms.
• Hands-on experience with CICS application development and production support.
• Experience identifying process improvements, modernizing legacy environments, and sharing expertise with peers.
