Manager I, Engineering - Agent Data Plane (Rust)

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of five engineers across Madrid and the US.
• Own planning and delivery for Agent Data Plane, including the phased migration of data pipelines from Go to Rust.
• Align priorities with teams responsible for logs, metrics, traces, checks, and APM Agent pipelines.
• Evolve Agent Data Plane into a platform that other teams can use with minimal support.
• Partner with technical leads and senior engineers on architecture, performance, resource usage, and reliability decisions.
• Represent the team in technical discussions and help shape the on-call rotation.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience managing software engineering teams.
• Typically 5+ years of strong individual contributor experience, with sufficient technical depth to earn the trust of senior engineers.
• 2+ years of hands-on systems programming experience in Rust, C++, Go, or C.
• Experience owning systems that other teams or customers depend on and guiding teams through incidents.
• Experience leading a significant migration or replacement of widely used technology and communicating with affected teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with Rust.
• Experience building software that runs on customer infrastructure, such as agents or collectors, rather than internal services.
• Experience on a platform team whose work other teams build on.
• Experience with open source software, external contributors, and public repositories.
