Senior Software Engineer (Oracle)

Location: Remote, hiring in Latin America

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java backend applications.
• Design the Oracle storage schema for a new application and optimize SQL queries for database performance.
• Support planning and execution of a future MySQL-to-Oracle migration.
• Troubleshoot complex application and database issues in production environments.
• Support backup, recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, failover, and production changes with minimal downtime.
• Write unit tests, collaborate on technical decisions, and maintain technical documentation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building, debugging, and optimizing scalable Java backend applications.
• Strong proficiency in Java 8–17, object-oriented design, design patterns, multithreading, and concurrency.
• Production Oracle development experience with knowledge of indexing, query optimization, partitioning, replication, transaction behavior, and database internals.
• Advanced SQL skills, including performance troubleshooting.
• Experience with production database operations, including backup and restore, high availability, disaster recovery, failover, and minimal-downtime changes.
• Experience writing unit tests with JUnit and Mockito.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably GCP, and Kubernetes or similar orchestration tools.
• Hands-on Linux/Unix experience and scripting with Bash, Python, or similar languages.
• Ability to work independently, own technical tasks, proactively resolve blockers, communicate effectively, and collaborate with cross-functional Scrum teams while leading technical discussions.
• Upper-Intermediate+ English level required.

Nice to have

• Production Oracle DBA experience.
• Experience with major Oracle version upgrades or large-scale database migrations.
• Oracle certification.
• Experience with Groovy, Gradle, and CI/CD pipelines.
