Associate Software Developer (Python)

Location: London, United Kingdom; hybrid working with 2 days in the office per week at the Brick Lane office. Right to work in the UK is required; visa sponsorship is not offered.

What you will do

• Deliver well-defined development tasks, fixes and enhancements across the software delivery lifecycle, from requirements and design through testing, deployment and production support.
• Develop Python solutions using Django, Django REST Framework and FastAPI, including APIs, scripts, data changes, background tasks and system integrations.
• Build and maintain modular, testable code, unit tests, documentation and technical implementation notes.
• Work with databases, messaging, caching, APIs, inventory data sources and shared services while reducing unnecessary complexity and duplication.
• Follow source control, CI/CD, release, deployment, Docker and Kubernetes practices, and investigate build, test and production issues.
• Participate in agile ceremonies, code reviews, pairing, knowledge sharing and collaboration with Engineering, QA, DevOps, Operations, Business Analysis and Architecture.

Requirements

• Foundational programming capability, preferably in Python, including functions, modules, data structures and debugging, gained through education, apprenticeship, placement, personal projects or practical work.
• Basic understanding of APIs, source control/Git, testing and software development practices, including code review, automated testing and CI/CD.
• Foundational knowledge or awareness of SQL/NoSQL databases, Linux, containers and cloud-native technologies, with the ability and motivation to learn Django/FastAPI, Docker, Kubernetes and messaging technologies.
• Understanding of secure coding, data handling, testing and validating changes before release, including responsible use of AI-assisted development tools and verification of generated outputs.
• Structured and curious approach to technical problem solving, with the ability to investigate issues, explain technical work and assumptions, learn from feedback, seek guidance and escalate blockers.
• Clear and respectful communication with technical and non-technical colleagues, including collaboration, attention to detail, documentation, accountability and reliable follow-through.
