Senior Backend Engineer (Developer Productivity)

Location: Hybrid, based at the Berlin, Dublin, Iași, or London office.

What you will do

• Build and operate deployment services supporting tens of thousands of weekly stack deployments across development, staging, production, and per-customer AWS accounts.
• Improve progressive rollouts, monitoring and canary stages, deployment gates, deployment windows, and rollback speed.
• Own Claudius and metadev, hirify.global's AI developer tooling, and extend their capabilities for CI investigation, issue triage, pull requests, and engineering knowledge access.
• Improve the build, test, and merge loop across monorepos by reducing CI runtime and flakiness, and evolve GitHub Actions workflows, caching, parallelism, self-hosted runners, and build costs.
• Shorten the development loop for the AWS Lambda stack through local development against preview environments and faster container-based deployments.
• Build templates, CLIs, self-service tooling, documentation, migrations, and DevProd metrics while partnering with engineering teams as internal customers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience, including shipping and operating production systems end-to-end and leading technical projects across teams.
• Production-grade skills in at least one backend language; Python is the main language, and the role primarily involves writing software, tools, services, bots, and CI logic.
• Hands-on experience owning CI/CD at scale, including build and test performance, caching, parallelization, and debugging flaky tests and pipelines.
• Solid AWS experience, ideally including Lambda, CloudFormation or SAM, and infrastructure as code with Terraform.
• Daily familiarity with AI coding and agent-orchestration tools such as Claude Code, OpenCode, subagents, and MCP, including making them reliable for an engineering organization.
• Product mindset for internal tooling, with user engagement, outcome measurement, and focus on adoption and time saved.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including proposing changes, planning rollouts, and driving cross-team completion.

Nice to have

• Experience on a developer productivity, developer experience, build/release engineering, or platform team.
• Experience as a product-facing backend engineer.
• Experience with frontend build and test tooling in the TypeScript/React ecosystem.
• Experience running self-hosted CI runners or build infrastructure at scale.
• Experience with progressive delivery, including canary deployments, automated rollbacks, and deployment gates.
• Experience with monorepo tooling, build systems, or dependency management at scale.
• Experience building AI agents or agent infrastructure, including MCP servers, agent harnesses, or evaluations.
