Mid-level Backend Engineer (Kotlin)

Location: Remote, exclusively for current UK residents; London-based engineering team.

What you will do

• Define technical solutions to business problems and contribute to a scalable architectural vision for the research platform.
• Build and ship backend services using Kotlin microservices and Postgres, with some legacy Ruby on Rails services and React on the frontend.
• Deploy frequently using CircleCI and Spinnaker for CI/CD, gather customer feedback, and iterate on solutions.
• Monitor services, detect errors, diagnose root causes, and deploy fixes.
• Take ownership of team problems and maintain a high standard of quality in released code.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and business stakeholders in a cross-functional engineering team.

Requirements

• Experience working at a similar level in a mature engineering team.
• Technical expertise with at least one programming language; the engineering stack includes Python, Kotlin, and Ruby.
• Experience with relational databases.
• Demonstrable impact in previous roles and a proven track record of strong results.
• Highly driven, proactive, and able to work independently through obstacles.
• Meticulous approach with strong attention to detail.
• A STEM degree is expected, although equivalent experience gained through another route is accepted.
