Senior Software Engineer (Kotlin/Java)

Salary: $117,000–$234,000 per year, plus annual or quarterly performance incentives.

What you will do

• Architect, design, implement, test, and support consumer-facing features for the Walmart Canada Mobile App using Kotlin, Java, and XML.
• Create and maintain shared libraries in the Android SDK and implement dependency-injection frameworks for e-commerce feature components.
• Debug production issues and validate GraphQL and REST API interactions using Charles, Postman, and Apollo GraphQL.
• Design memory-efficient UI solutions, unit tests, and Android UI tests while maintaining performance and scalability.
• Coordinate with product and design teams to influence the app and internal-services roadmap.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field and 1 year of software engineering experience, or bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field and 3 years of software engineering experience.
• Any amount of professional experience with the required skills will be accepted.
• Experience coding in object-oriented Kotlin and Java and working with Git.
• Experience with Firebase and Splunk for monitoring data analytics trends.
• Experience implementing asynchronous and multithreaded programming with Coroutines.
• Experience writing GraphQL queries and using Apollo GraphQL to connect with backend services.
• Experience using LiveData and ViewModel for lifecycle-aware business logic and UI updates.
• Experience creating and testing SQL and JDBC database management systems.
• Experience with JUnit, Mockito, and Espresso for automated unit and Android UI testing.
• Experience scripting continuous-integration automation jobs with YAML and Python, and applying clean-architecture design patterns.
