Design Lead, Java - Alternative Payment Methods

What you will do

• Lead team-level design for services and integration flows supporting new payment products and alternative payment method provider onboarding.
• Continue hands-on Java and Spring Boot development, implementing complex features, provider integrations, and production fixes.
• Create reusable integration templates and resilient patterns for authentication, routing, validation, retries, callbacks, webhooks, and failure recovery.
• Improve delivery flow through reusable components, design patterns, engineering practices, and AI-assisted development approaches.
• Establish testing, CI/CD, containerization, observability, alerting, deployment, rollback, and operational reliability practices.
• Lead design and code reviews, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product and partner-facing stakeholders.

Requirements

• 8–12 years of software engineering experience, including 2–4 years in a team lead, tech lead, or design lead capacity.
• Strong current hands-on Java and Spring Boot expertise, with experience leading technical delivery while contributing production code.
• Production experience personally implementing payment provider, PSP, gateway, or APM integrations, including asynchronous flows, retries, idempotency, and failure recovery.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted software development tools and willingness to experiment with emerging agentic engineering workflows.
• Hands-on CI/CD, DevOps, and containerization experience, including Kubernetes and OpenShift.
• Understanding of secure coding and OWASP practices.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills in cross-functional Agile teams.
• Experience improving team execution, delivery outcomes, engineering flow, and continuous improvement.

Nice to have

• Experience using AI-assisted software engineering tools in day-to-day delivery.
• Familiarity with AI-first or agentic development practices.
