Senior Java Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within Romania

What you will do

• Develop and maintain scalable Java backend applications and RESTful microservices focused on performance and reliability.
• Implement Spring Boot applications using clean code, testing, and performance optimization practices.
• Collaborate with DevOps on containerization, deployments, and CI/CD pipeline integration.
• Design event-driven, asynchronous, and decoupled systems using Apache Kafka or similar messaging platforms.
• Optimize relational database integrations and SQL queries while maintaining data integrity and responsiveness.
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, engineering standards, mentoring, and responsible AI-assisted development.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend software development experience with Java 8 or above.
• Strong proficiency with Spring Boot and the Spring framework ecosystem.
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing RESTful microservices.
• Proficiency in optimized SQL queries and database work.
• Working knowledge of Apache Kafka or similar messaging platforms.
• Strong understanding of asynchronous programming, message-driven systems, and distributed systems.
• Good understanding of Docker, Kubernetes or similar orchestration platforms, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins.
• Experience with Git, Agile development practices, and cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• Hands-on experience with AI code companions and intelligent development tools, including effective prompting, critical validation of outputs, understanding limitations, and ownership of final results.
• Strong English communication skills.

Nice to have

• German language skills.
• Familiarity with Java performance tuning and monitoring.
• Knowledge of backend security best practices.
• Full-stack development experience with Angular or React.
