Engineer (Storybook)

Location: Remote | Europe; support rotation is primarily within business hours.

Salary: US $161,900–197,700 per year + equity.

hirify.global provides a platform used by front-end teams worldwide and develops Storybook, a tool for building, testing, and documenting UI components.

What you will do

• Contribute to the Storybook codebase as a core maintainer.
• Design, develop, and refine Storybook APIs for end users, addon authors, and core maintainers.
• Collaborate in the open by triaging issues, reviewing pull requests, supporting contributors, and writing or reviewing RFCs.
• Understand developer workflows and create educational content that helps users get value from Storybook features.
• Engage with the developer community and share work and ideas, including through conferences if interested.
• Coordinate with other hirify.global engineering teams and participate in the engineering support rotation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building for the web using JavaScript, TypeScript, or other relevant languages.
• Experience building tooling, frameworks, or libraries for other developers, including internal tools.
• Solid understanding of the “backend of frontend,” including how modern web frameworks and build tools work under the hood.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and comfort working asynchronously across a distributed team.
• Interest in engaging with developer communities to understand their needs, exchange ideas, and share work.
• Ability to form independent opinions, explain reasoning, and remain open to changing perspective based on new information.
• Genuine enthusiasm for making developers’ lives easier and helping shape the future of frontend development.

Nice to have

• Publicly shared knowledge through talks, writing, videos, or other channels.
• Deep expertise beyond React, such as Web Components, Angular, or React Native, with an opinion on good developer experience in that ecosystem.
• Experience with agentic tools and workflows and interest in how AI is changing software development.
• Experience with Storybook or hirify.global.
• Experience working effectively in a distributed, remote-first team environment.
• A non-traditional path into software that brings insight from experiences beyond engineering.
