Manager, Staff Counsel (Insurance Defense)

Location: Hybrid; Melville, New York, United States.

Annual salary: $151,700–$235,750.

What you will do

• Manage Staff Counsel office activities involving the defense of hirify.global insureds in liability cases and hirify.global matters involving UM/UIM, PIP, and subrogation suits or arbitrations.
• Represent insureds and hirify.global in courts of limited and unlimited jurisdiction, trials, arbitrations, and mediations.
• Research law and prepare briefs, opinions, memoranda, pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, and examinations under oath.
• Hire, evaluate, coach, supervise, discipline, and terminate associates as appropriate; train less experienced attorneys and support first- and second-chair litigation.
• Monitor bar and CLE requirements, review office reports, and implement improvements to productivity, timeliness, resolved ratios, subrogation results, and client and claims survey performance.
• Travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences, while meeting the attendance standard of the business location.

Requirements

• Minimum seven years of litigation experience, including insurance defense or personal injury.
• Licensed and in good standing to practice law in applicable jurisdictions, with maintained licensing and mandatory CLE requirements where applicable.
• Successful primary trial responsibility for cases of significant severity and complexity.
• Ability to perform essential functions including concentrating, reading, writing, listening, typing, speaking, bending, reaching, lifting, and standing for extended periods, with or without accommodation.
• Ability to use keyboards, mice, and multiple pieces of office equipment, including simultaneous use where required.
• Professional in-person, telephone, and written communication skills, including clear and concise file documentation.
• Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve or facilitate conflict resolution, organize and prioritize work, multitask, and apply substantial technical and procedural information.
