Associate Senior Counsel, Claim - Remote

Location: Remote, covering a territory around Springfield, Stockbridge, Ludlow, Longmeadow, and Chicopee, Massachusetts; travel is required for court events, depositions, appointments, and other business needs.

Salary: $120,400–$198,700 annual base salary, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Independently manage predominantly moderate- and higher-exposure insurance defense matters, including Major Case litigation where applicable, from inception through trial and appeal.
• Prepare and litigate cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions using pre-trial and trial advocacy skills.
• Conduct legal research; draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other substantive legal documents; and deliver persuasive legal presentations.
• Attend hearings, trials, depositions, court events, and other appointments; provide case analysis and handling recommendations to insured clients and Claim partners.
• Collaborate with expert witnesses and consultants, manage client and business partner relationships, and provide training, seminars, and legal updates.
• Mentor attorneys and legal support staff, contribute to special projects, and use available technology, case management systems, and automation.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
• At least 4 years of experience as a practicing attorney.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state or states where representation is required.
• At least 5 years of insurance defense litigation experience as a practicing attorney.
• Experience preparing and/or litigating jury trials, aptitude for trying cases to a jury, and a history of successful courtroom outcomes.
• Strong technical knowledge in the relevant practice areas and ability to communicate complex litigated matters to diverse audiences.
• Proficient oral and written advocacy skills, including a demonstrated record of summary judgment and/or appellate success.
• In-depth knowledge of the bench, bar, local jurisdictional practices, and adversaries.
• Collaborative relationship-building, exceptional customer service, leadership, mentoring, influencing, sound decision-making, and advanced negotiation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail, urgency, and responsiveness, plus a flexible and agile approach to evolving needs.
• Regular handling of hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, or other court proceedings, with the ability to travel to those meetings. A valid driver's license is required depending on location.
