Counsel (Insurance Defense)

Location: Remote; must be within commutable distance of the Austin, Texas site and able to travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

Annual salary: $118,900.00–$185,525.00.

What you will do

• Defend lawsuits filed in Texas courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters.
• Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, memoranda, pleadings, motions, and discovery.
• Render opinions on liability, damages, and case value for the Claims Department.
• Handle depositions, examinations before trial, examinations under oath, trials, and dispositive hearings.

Requirements

• 7–9+ years of related field litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury.
• Juris Doctor degree.
• Admission to the Texas Bar.
• Current license in good standing to practice law in Texas, including compliance with applicable licensing and Continuing Legal Education requirements.
• Ability to travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.
• Ability to document files clearly, concisely, and professionally for customers, clients, coworkers, and other employees.
• Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve or facilitate conflict resolution, organize priorities, multitask, and learn and apply substantial technical and procedural information.

Nice to have

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
• Professional communication skills in person, by telephone, and through written correspondence or email.
