Intermediate Software Engineer (Java/AWS)

Location: Hybrid, with three days per week in office at a U.S. hub location in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; or Denver, Colorado.

Salary: $80,000–$92,000 annually, plus potential eligibility for an annual bonus.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, document, and support enterprise application solutions.
• Refine user stories, write code and test cases, collaborate with QA, and deploy applications across environments.
• Evaluate solution options for business fit, scalability, security, performance, and cost.
• Work with developers, contract and offshore engineers, product owners, vendors, and other internal and external resources in an agile environment.
• Use third-party frameworks, open-source libraries, and APIs, while recommending opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
• Support production applications, troubleshoot issues, resolve problems, and present technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information systems.
• At least one year of software development experience using Java, Python, and AWS.
• At least one year of experience with cloud-based application development, deployment, and support.
• At least one year of experience with application integration, microservices, and REST-based service development.
• Proficiency in database design techniques and philosophies, including SQL and NoSQL concepts.
• Knowledge of Agile development, distributed computing, scalable application architecture, and software development and research tools.
• Attention to detail, results orientation, customer focus, analytical and problem-solving skills, and strong technical communication.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, prioritize workload, and meet tight deadlines.

Nice to have

• Experience contributing to application development and platform transformation initiatives.
• Experience with in-house enterprise platforms.
• Experience using AI-assisted software engineering tools and modern development practices.
• Relevant AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Java, or equivalent technology certifications.
• Experience in insurance, retirement, wealth management, financial services, or another regulated industry.
