Software Engineer II - Slack Developer Workspaces (AI Infrastructure)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States. Workplace type: Office Tech-Flexible.

Salary: $148,500–$2,239,000 annual base salary; selected San Francisco and New York City metropolitan areas: $178,900–$246,000 annually. Bonus, equity, and benefits are excluded.

What you will do

• Scale the AI sandbox fleet through capacity planning, safe rollouts, image builds, and operational alerting.
• Harden isolation between AI agents, sandboxes, and hirify.global through network separation, egress controls, secrets handling, and patching.
• Operate and improve remote development environments using Terraform, machine images, and automation for idle-environment management.
• Build observability through SLOs, dashboards, and centralized logs.
• Participate in a weekly on-call rotation after ramp-up and automate fixes for production incidents.
• Use AI agents extensively in development and platform operations.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building and operating production systems.
• Infrastructure, SRE, DevOps, or platform engineering background, including on-call experience for a production system.
• Strong AWS knowledge, including EC2, networking, and IAM.
• Experience managing infrastructure as code with Terraform or a comparable tool.
• Strong coding skills in Go or Python.
• Daily use of AI coding tools and informed opinions about their limitations.
• Strong ownership and ability to respond proactively when systems break.

Nice to have

• Experience with Firecracker, KVM, or other virtualization technologies.
• Production Kubernetes experience.
• Security background in VM or container isolation, vulnerability management, or threat modeling.
• Comfort with Linux internals and networking.
• Experience on a developer productivity or platform team.
