Staff SW Engineer (Spring Boot)

Location: Austin, Texas, United States; hybrid with at least 3 days in the office. Travel required 5–10% of the time.

Salary: $133,300–$213,400 USD per year, with potential bonus, equity, and sales incentive payments where applicable.

What you will do

• Collaborate with product managers, designers, data scientists, QA, operations, compliance, and other stakeholders to define requirements and deliver technical solutions.
• Translate functional requirements into system designs, define component interactions, and lead design reviews.
• Design, develop, and maintain extensible, reusable product components and improve code quality through standards, metrics, and reviews.
• Estimate project work, identify delivery risks, resolve moderately complex defects, and find opportunities for automation.
• Create complex test plans, identify test gaps, analyze monitoring and data patterns, and proactively address defects.
• Support on-call incident response, build developer tools, and recommend technical improvements and resources to other engineers.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 2 years with an advanced degree, 0 years with a PhD, or 8+ years of relevant experience without the specified degree path.
• Digital fluency, including the ability to use emerging technologies such as Generative AI tools including ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot.
• Preferred: 6+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 4+ years with an advanced degree, or up to 3 years with a PhD.
• Preferred deep expertise in Spring Boot for microservices and REST APIs, and Spring Security for OAuth/JWT authentication.
• Preferred full-stack experience with responsive interfaces using Angular or React and core web technologies.
• Preferred experience designing, querying, and optimizing relational SQL and NoSQL data layers.
• Preferred experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and integrating AI capabilities into enterprise workflows.
• Preferred experience in software engineering or a related field, web or mobile applications, product development, enterprise-scale web services, and client-facing technical teams.
• Preferred experience in leadership, testing and test-plan execution, debugging, cross-functional delivery, code review, coding standards, developer tools, and container-based technologies.
