Senior Software Engineer, Swarm Systems (Robotics)

Location: Remote or hybrid in the United States; hybrid office location in San Diego, California.

Salary: $113,965–$178,135, plus performance-based bonuses and equity.

Apium Swarm Robotics develops operational swarm autonomy software for air, surface, undersea, and ground vehicles in commercial and defense environments.

What you will do

• Maintain and extend the C++ codebase supporting ground stations and drone operations.
• Develop new swarming behaviors, algorithms, and communication methodologies.
• Build and maintain Python web services for the ground station.
• Modify and extend the swarm communications protocol and general system functionality.
• Improve and redefine software architecture and establish a more rigorous engineering process.
• Travel for testing and demonstrations of deployed swarm systems.

Requirements

• Must be a US Person.
• Strong C++ development experience and expert coding ability in C and C++, including the Standard Template Library.
• Frontend web development experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Backend web development experience with Python.
• Android development experience with Java or Kotlin.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented development methodologies.
• Strong mathematics and/or physics background, including comfort with vector operations.
• Advanced low-level knowledge of compiler operation and memory management.
• Linux development experience, including POSIX and similar libraries.
• Experience with software development processes such as Agile and aerospace software development processes.
• Ability to work independently with limited oversight and remain calm and effective under operational pressure.

Nice to have

• Strong Linux background and experience with AI coding assistance tools.
• Video game development or autonomous systems experience.
• Experience with MVC, MVP, MVVM, or similar architectural patterns.
• Experience with Flutter, React Native, Xamarin, or similar cross-platform frameworks.
• Microcontroller development, including STM32 targets, and real-time operating systems.
• Embedded Linux, including Yocto, and Pub/Sub architectural patterns.
• Strong mechanical, electrical, or systems troubleshooting skills.
• US security clearance or ability to obtain one.
