Senior Software Engineer, Capacity & Efficiency (AWS)

Location: Bellevue, WA office; in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

Base pay for Bellevue, WA: $196,000–$230,000 USD per year, plus bonus opportunities, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Build forecast-driven capacity plans for storage and database fleets using traffic history, load tests, and market or business events.
• Design an Aurora capacity planner that sets reader counts and writer instance sizes from demand and load signals.
• Rightsize RDS, Aurora, ElastiCache, DynamoDB, EBS, and other infrastructure based on utilization and changing load.
• Own S3 storage-class, Intelligent-Tiering, lifecycle, retention, versioning, upload, and request-cost efficiency at scale.
• Convert validated recommendations into production automation with guardrails, progressive rollout, rollback, and fallbacks for AWS capacity constraints.
• Measure savings, forecast error, utilization, and post-event capacity, and share forecasts with compute rightsizing systems.

Requirements

• Deep hands-on experience operating AWS storage and databases at scale, especially Aurora or RDS with MySQL or PostgreSQL and S3, including replication, read scaling, storage classes, and lifecycle management.
• Experience with capacity planning and forecasting, including time-series demand modeling, load testing, and translating traffic into instance counts, sizes, and storage growth.
• Track record of rightsizing infrastructure using CPU, memory, IOPS, throughput, and stored-byte utilization without reducing latency or availability.
• Strong Python or Go engineering experience building automation that safely modifies production infrastructure with guardrails, progressive rollout, and rollback.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with AWS storage and database pricing, including S3 storage classes and requests, Aurora I/O-Optimized versus Standard, and Reserved Instances.
• Experience with bursty, event-driven workloads such as trading, payments, or ticketing, or with Spark, Airflow, or Kubernetes.
