Associate Principal Scientist (Biopharmaceutics)

Salary: $142,400–$224,100 per year, plus potential annual bonus and long-term incentive.

What you will do

• Lead integrated biopharmaceutics strategies for subcutaneous biologics across formulation, dose volume, injection site, device, development, commercialization, and lifecycle decisions.
• Apply mechanistic and quantitative approaches to translate preclinical findings, assess exposure variability, and support formulation, device, process, scale, and site changes.
• Evaluate the effects of quality attributes, formulation, particles, aggregates, and delivery conditions on tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and immunogenicity.
• Communicate risks and recommendations at program and governance forums and author or review regulatory submissions and health authority briefing materials.
• Develop predictive tools and experimental approaches, mentor scientists, and contribute to external scientific engagement.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline plus 3+ years of relevant experience; or a relevant master’s degree plus 8+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Expertise in biologics drug product development focused on subcutaneous absorption, interstitial transport, and translational pharmacokinetics.
• Experience leading biopharmaceutics, formulation, or translational PK work within cross-functional matrix development teams.
• Hands-on experience with biopharmaceutics risk assessments for product comparability, device transitions such as vial-to-prefilled syringe or autoinjector, and formulation bridging.
• Understanding of interactions among biologic quality attributes, delivery devices, clinical immunogenicity, and ADA impact.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including translating complex or incomplete data into development decisions.
• Outstanding oral, written, and presentation skills for communicating technical complexity to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.

Nice to have

• Mechanistic modeling and simulation experience with platforms such as GastroPlus, Simcyp, Phoenix WinNonlin, PK-Sim, MATLAB, or Python/R.
• Experience with high-concentration or large-volume subcutaneous biologic delivery, co-formulation, or permeation-enhancing technologies.
• Experience authoring biopharmaceutics and comparability sections for IND/BLA filings or supporting agency briefing books.
• Experience evaluating device-biologic interactions and human factors for prefilled syringes, autoinjectors, or wearable delivery systems.
• Peer-reviewed publications, invited presentations, or active participation in cross-industry consortia.
