Sr Associate Scientist, Vaccines Upstream Bioprocess Development (Biotechnology)

Location: On premise in Pearl River, New York, United States. Candidates must have permanent authorization to work in the United States; U.S. work visa sponsorship is not available.

Annual base salary: $68,600–$114,300, plus eligibility for a 7.5% bonus target.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and optimize microbial fermentation processes for vaccine antigen production.
• Screen microbial strains using high-throughput fermentation systems.
• Operate fermentation systems up to 75 L, including media preparation, fermenter setup, process monitoring, control, and product harvest.
• Analyze fermentation samples using HPLC, bioanalyzers, and other analytical instruments.
• Evaluate new technologies, analyze experimental data, and prepare scientific summaries for cross-functional teams.
• Provide occasional support for mammalian cell culture activities, including bioreactor setup, monitoring, sampling, and data analysis.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biochemistry, chemical or biochemical engineering, biotechnology, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with any years of experience.
• Experience with microbial fermentation and/or mammalian cell culture experiments.
• Understanding of microbiology, cell physiology, and biochemical engineering principles.
• Experience operating high-throughput bioreactors and benchtop or sterilize-in-place fermenters.
• Ability to organize and analyze large datasets using tools such as Spotfire or Power BI and present scientific summaries clearly.
• Permanent U.S. work authorization is required; visa sponsorship is unavailable.

Nice to have

• Experience with qPCR, Western blot, HPLC, or Octet.
• Knowledge of GLP/GxP and cGMP practices.
• Experience managing multiple projects and working independently.
• Experience using generative AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot or Gemini responsibly for problem solving and productivity.
