Senior Process Engineer (Optics)

Location: Wilton, Connecticut, United States. Onsite work includes fabrication-floor and cleanroom duties.

Salary: $102,375–$150,150 base annual salary.

What you will do

• Own the development, stabilization, optimization, and daily performance of CNC deterministic polishing processes.
• Define process parameters, tooling, fixturing, environmental controls, measurement stability, process windows, and capability targets.
• Interpret interferometry, profilometry, and surface-inspection data and convert findings into process decisions.
• Lead qualification and introduction of new fixtures, tools, software, machine upgrades, and next-generation process technologies.
• Use SPC, JMP, Minitab, and structured root cause analysis to reduce variation, rework, and first-pass-yield losses.
• Collaborate with technicians, supervisors, grinding and polishing teams, quality, equipment engineering, and maintenance while maintaining specifications, work instructions, and standard work.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical, Optical, Materials, or a related engineering field.
• At least 5 years of experience in optical fabrication and CNC deterministic polishing machines.
• Experience with tooling mechanics, CNC deterministic polishing interpretation, and process development.
• Strong understanding of CNC deterministic polishing and tooling mechanics for accurate measurements.
• Proficiency with interferometry, profilometry, and surface-inspection tools.
• Experience with JMP, Minitab, or equivalent statistical software.
• Demonstrated structured problem solving, data analysis, root cause analysis, process improvement, 6P readiness, and verification-driven corrective action.
• Strong communication, cross-functional collaboration, leadership, and prioritization skills in a time-sensitive production environment.
• Must be work authorized in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship and legally authorized to access controlled technology under U.S. export regulations.
• Must work in a cleanroom wearing coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses, and gloves for the entire shift; the role requires standing or walking, visual inspection, and lifting materials up to 35 pounds.
